With apologies to the movie "Jaws," we're going to need a bigger rain gauge. Climatologist/meteorologist Mark Seeley reports that, statewide, Minnesota just experienced the wettest April thru June on record, with an average of just over 15.3 inches, breaking the record of 15.28″ set April to June of 2014.
Saturated soils from earlier rains in March accelerated runoff, and stalled bands of storms created serious river flooding more typical of April than late June. Crazy.
Another inch of rain may fall Monday night into early Tuesday with another 1-2 inches from the Fourth of July (sorry) into next weekend. We just can't seem to catch a break. With the exception of today and Friday, I see 80s this week. You know, like summer?
Under the heading "it can always be worse," Category 4 Hurricane Beryl is the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the hurricane basin in June, heading toward Jamaica and maybe Cancun.
Water temperatures are 3 to 4 degrees higher than usual, more typical of late August. So it begins.
