Storms rarely get into this position in June. Why? Because by this time ofyear, the jet stream or storm track is typically much farther north enteringwestern North America through British Columbia. The storm now centered west of California is simply a renegade; it's notsuppose to be there. Now, if you have followed the weather for any length oftime you know that normal atmospheric behavior is anything but that. Somethingdifferent and unusual is always going on. I suppose that's what makes theweather so interesting to follow.
In any case, the storm is there, and it will have major impact on West Coastweather for the next three days. One thing for sure is that California'scentral valley and high deserts will be much cooler than average. In addition, showers will occur through central and northern portions of the state which isalso pretty rare for June.
To give you an idea of how dry the month typically is in California, checkout these numbers. The normal June rainfall in San Francisco is 0.11 of aninch, Fresno's average is 0.23 of an inch and Los Angeles gets only 0.08 of aninch.
