Richfield's Ibrahim signs with NSC Stars

The NSC Minnesota Stars announced the signing of three veterans Wednesday, including Abdys (Fuad) Ibrahim, an Ethiopian who was raised in Richfield.

Ibrahim, a former United States Under-17 and U-20 national team member, joins the Stars after four seasons in Major League Soccer. He was chosen by Dallas in the second round of the 2007 MLS draft, and later played for Toronto from 2008 until his release after the 2010 season.

The Stars also signed midfielder Shawn Chin and defender Connor Tobin, bringing the Stars' roster to 24 players.

The Stars open the 2012 season Saturday night against the Carolina RailHawks at the Metrodome.

Etc. • Minnesota Swarm rookie goalkeeper Evan Kirk has been chosen the National Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week. Kirk stopped 26 of 27 shots after entering the Swarm's 9-8 loss to Edmonton on Saturday.
