Saints hit four homers in runaway rout of Iowa

DES MOINES – Tomas Telis, J.T. Riddle, Ryan Jeffers and Brent Rooker all hit home runs with runners on base as the Saints walloped the Iowa Cubs 17-6 on Tuesday night.

The 17 runs were the most for a Class AAA team in 2021.

Telis went 4-for-6 as the Saints piled up 14 hits. He hit a three-run homer in the second inning; Riddle hit a three-run homer to give St. Paul a 10-0 lead in the fourth; Jeffers hit a three-run shot in the seventh for his fourth home run with the Saints; and Rooker hit his fourth as well with a two-run blast in the ninth. Leadoff hitter Tzu-Wei Lin scored four times.

Bailey Ober gave up one run on four hits and no walks in five innings for the Saints, striking out five.

Down 17-1, the Cubs scored five ninth-inning runs off Tom Hackimer. Andrew Vasquez struck out Jose Lobaton with the bases loaded to end the game.
