Saints split doubleheader at Sioux City

June 17, 2008 at 5:53AM

Pitching coach Mitch Wylie gave up a run on four hits in four innings as the Saints beat host Sioux City 3-1 in the second game of an American Association doubleheader Monday night.

In the first game, Alex Llanos hit a walk-off home run, giving the Explorers a 5-4 victory.

Wylie hadn't piched in a professional game since September 2006 because of a labrum injury. But the righthander recorded five strikeouts without a walk Monday.

Julius Thames went 4-for-4 in the second game and drove in the go-ahead run on an RBI single in the fifth inning as the Saints maintained a share of the lead in the North Division.

The Gophers played with more urgency, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from another conference sweep, and they lost LJ Mooney to injury in the process.
