OCEAN CITY, Md. — Authorities have resumed their search after a small plane crashed into the ocean off Ocean City.

Police in the resort town say the search resumed Monday morning. It was called off overnight due to dangerous conditions.

Maryland State Police say the plane went down Sunday afternoon a half mile offshore at 133rd Street. Police spokesman Greg Shipley says divers believe they have located debris from the plane and they'll return to that spot. Police say it's not clear if anyone besides the pilot was on board the two-seat plane.

Mayor Rick Meehan says witnesses told police that the aircraft spun out of control before crashing. He says the pilot is presumed dead.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the single-engine CJ-6A took off from Ocean City Municipal Airport.
