Sen. Klobuchar meets with SCOTUS nominee Judge Gorsuch

February 9, 2017 at 9:49PM

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Amy Klobuchar met with President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch on Thursday and said she pressed him on campaign finance and consumer issues.

Klobuchar is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is Gorsuch's first stop before going to the full Senate for a vote on confirmation. She said in a statement that Thursday's meeting "was the beginning of a process."

"This nominee deserves serious scrutiny," she said. "We discussed his approach to precedent as well as his record and views on several areas of concern, including separation of powers, campaign finance and consumer issues like antitrust."

Unlike cabinet nominees, Gorsuch is going to have to earn the support from eight Democratic senators to get confirmed. That is unless Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell changes the Senate rules -- something Klobuchar has been deeply against.
