THE DAY'S EVENTS
• The judges issued a long-awaited ruling on the types of rejected absentee ballots that will be considered in the trial. They set aside once and for all most of the 19 categories of ballots they had defined. But lawyers for Republican Norm Coleman said that some 3,500 remained for reconsideration. Lawyers for DFLer Al Franken emphasized that the judges made it clear that Coleman will bear the burden of showing that a ballot complies strictly with legal requirements before it can be counted.
