Blaine man, 19, dies in car-semi crash

A 19-year-old man from Blaine died Wednesday night when the car he was driving and a semitrailer truck collided in Blaine, according to police.

The truck was southbound on University Avenue at 85th Avenue NE. when it collided with a car heading east on 85th, police said. The crash happened at 7:54 p.m.

The car's driver died at the scene, police said. Two passengers in his vehicle, ages 12 and 13, were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with critical injuries.

The semi driver, a 41-year-old man from St. Paul, was not hurt. He remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.

The accident is being investigated by Blaine police, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office and Medical Examiner's Office and the State Patrol.

The crash closed roads in the area for several hours.
