April 18, 2019 at 2:59AM

The Gophers men's gymnastics team is the No. 6 seed heading into this weekend's NCAA championships in Champaign, Ill., after finishing as the national runner-up last year in its best finish since 1990.

Shane Wiskus returns after a runner-up finish in the NCAA all-around competition last year as a freshman. Wiskus was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Year for the second consecutive season. The Gophers tied with Michigan and Iowa for this year's Big Ten regular-season title but fell to fifth place at the conference meet April 6.

On Friday, the Gophers will compete at 1 p.m. in Session I against No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Michigan, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 10 Navy and No. 11 California. The top three teams from that session will advance to Saturday's championship against the top three teams from Session II. Saturday's events air live on Big Ten Network at 6 p.m.
