Sheriff's cars involved in a string of I-35 wrecks

March 17, 2011 at 2:14AM

At least four vehicles, two of them sheriff's squad cars, were involved in a series of crashes Wednesday on icy Interstate 35 in southern Minnesota.

A 22-year-old St. Paul man, Pa Lo, was the most seriously hurt and was in critical condition at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, the State Patrol said.

About 6:30 a.m., an SUV rolled over on northbound I-35, throwing the driver from the vehicle. While Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn and Deputy Sgt. Mark Hlady were at the scene, Deputy Lisa Hofer's squad car rolled over as she was on her way to the crash site.

Hlady then drove to the aid of Hofer, where Pa Lo's car hit Hlady's vehicle.
