DVD Driven to destruction - and worse The first 45 minutes of "Drive Angry" is a gore-spurting, sex-flaunting romp -- and that's the good part. Its second half includes scenes that aspire to sincerity and ones that require star Nicolas Cage to utter more than one sentence at a time -- both bad ideas. Cage's taciturn character, Milton, has just busted out of somewhere to rescue his infant granddaughter. The baby is in the clutches of a satanic sect that's already killed her parents. The cult's leader, Jonah King (Billy Burke), intends to sacrifice the child under the upcoming full moon. This will usher in an age of "hell on Earth." Nearly everyone in this land of seedy motels, crummy diners and suspect Southern accents is a thug, a lecher or both. The DVD and Blu-ray (Summit, $27-$35) include commentary by filmmakers Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer, deleted scenes and a body-count tracker.

GAME

Don an armor suit and shoot The team-based shooter "Section 8: Prejudice" ($15 download for Xbox 360; rated Teen ) offers the brute force of powered armor suits. The game includes a solo campaign as well as two multiplayer modes: Conquest, where up to 32 players battle over control points on a map; and Swarm, where up to four players work together to fend off waves of enemies. Similar to the classic "Tribes" games, the warriors of "Section 8" use rechargeable jet packs to augment their jumps and soar over walls and terrain. And unlike most shooters, players don't enter the game at set points. Instead, they choose a spot on the map to rocket down to from thousands of feet up, adjusting their landing aim in flight and braking at the last moment. Players can choose from several pre-generated soldier classes with different weapon and equipment loads or design custom classes.

SACRAMENTO (CALIF.) BEE

GADGET

Funny name, but great sound Fanny Wang headphones might sound like a gimmick, but they are trendsetting over-the-ear audio devices. The Fanny Wangs ($169; www.fannywang.com) have obviously have been designed to resemble the Monster Beats headphones by Dr. Dre ($259) and have the same great sound, but not the same steep price. When playing music with the Fanny Wangs, you can pick up the great bass sound with unbelievable clarity out of the 40-millimeter drivers. Comfort and fashion were critical elements in the design, as seen with the nicely padded ear cushions. They also include a 3.5-millimeter Duo Jack on the cord to plug in a companion's headphones to share music.

What's brewing in coffeemakers Consumer Reports needs to revisit the automatic coffeemaker product category. Its top-rated model is the Cuisinart DCC-1200. But the new, 10-cup, thermal-carafe equipped Cuisinart Extreme Brew DCC-2750 ($130 at Macy's) shaves two minutes (a 25 percent saving) off the prep time for a six-cup batch and also offers a "bold" brew option that can really grow some hair on your tongue. Those who prefer tea or French-press coffee might like the Cuisinart Cordless Programmable Kettle (CPK-17, $99 at www.abt.com), which can hold the water at just the right temperature -- boiling for black tea, 175 degrees for green tea, 200 degrees for French press coffee and more.
