Even though the temperatures were pushing the 100 degree mark, Silverado Pro-Am Bass Tour anglers turned out to Lake Independence to help out with the first Silverado/YMCA Kids Fishing Event. The event was held at YMCA Camp Ihduhapi located near Loretto.
Silverado anglers with boats took two campers out at a time to test the waters of the lake. Many of the campers were excited just to take a ride in the guy's bass boats, let alone get the chance to catch a fish. The young anglers caught some nice panfish and crappies.
While on shore the camper's participated in activities such as casting practice, tying knots, hook selection and rigging baits, and learning about Minnesota's fish and lakes. This is where I was able to help out, along with other Silverado co-anglers. It was a great day to help pass on my knowledge of fishing to these young anglers, many of whom have never fished before. Seeing the smiles on their faces and them laughing was better than any first place trophy.
I want to quick thank all of the Silverado Pro-Am Bass Tour sponsors for helping put this event together and tournament director Billy Hildebrand for all of his hard work. I also want to personally thank Eagle Claw for donating the hooks to help me teach these young anglers about hook selection.
