In the Lake Tahoe area, skiers encounter great lake views, plenty of powder and slopes for all kinds of skiers. Among the numerous ski resorts, Squaw Valley reigns as undisputed leader. The resort hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics. It and its nearby partner, Alpine Meadows, have a combined 270 runs. Northstar California, named a best mountain for families by Outside magazine, boasts 100 runs. Heavenly Mountain Resort has nearly as many.
