South Dakota State QB sets conference record for total offense

Taryn Christion threw for one touchdown and ran for two more, setting a Missouri Valley Conference record for total offense, and South Dakota State rolled to a 36-7 win over Youngstown State on Saturday in Brookings, S.D.

Christion connected with Cade Johnson for a 23-yard score three minutes into the game and added scoring runs of 49 and 11 yards in the fourth quarter.

The long touchdown gave Christion 10,969 yards of total offense, passing 10,952 by Matt Brown of Illinois State from 2009-12. By the end of the game his total was 10,986.

C.J. Wilson, who had 119 yards on 16 carries, added a 48-yard scoring run in the third quarter for SDSU (4-1, 2-1).

Saturday's contest marked John Stiegelmeier's 250th game as SDSU coach. He has a 152-98 record in 22 seasons.

Northern Iowa 42, South Dakota 28: The host Coyotes (3-3, 2-1 MVC) lost their first conference game as the Panthers (3-3, 2-1) held them to 38 yards rushing.

North Dakota State 34, Western Illinois 7: James Hendricks had two of North Dakota State's four interceptions and Dan Marlette returned a fumble 38 yards for a touchdown as the visiting Bison (6-0, 3-0 MVC) beat the Leathernecks (2-4, 1-2).

North Dakota 41, Montana 14: Nate Ketteringham threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth score in the first half of a nonconference game in Grand Forks, N.D. The Fighting Hawks (4-2), who rushed for 282 yards, ended a four-game losing streak against the Grizzlies (4-3).
