BASKETBALL

Pippen playing again, sort of Former NBA star Scottie Pippen scored nine points to help Finland league leader Torpan Pojat beat Honka 98-85 on Saturday.

Pippen also had nine rebounds.

"It was great. I did not know what to anticipate without a game for the last three years," the 42-year-old Pippen said. "My conditioning is not at the top level, but I played with a great team and had a lot of fun."

Pippen scored 12 points in his first game Friday, ToPo's 93-81 victory over Po.

Will Bynum, a former Georgia Tech star now playing in Israel, was arrested and accused of running over a man after leaving a nightclub brawl.

The injured man, a disc jockey at the club, was in serious but stable condition, the Haaretz newspaper reported. Bynum had a hearing in Tel Aviv and was to remain in custody until Sunday, the Maariv newspaper reported.

BASEBALL

Mets reacquire Pagan The New York Mets acquired outfielder Angel Pagan on Saturday from the Chicago Cubs for two minor leaguers.

Outfielder Corey Coles and righthanded pitcher Ryan Meyers were sent to the Cubs. The 26-year-old Pagan batted .264 with four home runs and 21 RBI for Chicago last year.

Ben Broussard and the Rangers agreed to a $3.85 million, one-year contract on Saturday, avoiding arbitration.

TENNIS

Murray wins Qatar Open Andy Murray defeated Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 to win the Qatar Open in Doha.

Rafael Nadal was extended to three tiebreakers and outlasted Carlos Moya, setting up a Chennai Open final with Mikhail Youzhny.

Nadal, ranked No. 2, won 6-7 (3), 7-6 (8), 7-6 (1). Youzhny, seeded fourth, defeated Marin Cilic 6-2, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

AROUND THE HORN

Berthod leads 1-2 Swiss finish Marc Berthod led a 1-2 finish for Switzerland in a World Cup giant slalom in Abelboden, Switzerland. Ted Ligety of the United States fell near the start and Bode Miller missed a gate during a treacherous first leg that 23 skiers did not complete.

Berthod finished in 2 minutes, 27.56 seconds, more than a half-second ahead of Daniel Albrecht. Hannes Reichelt of Austria was third.

Stefan Gimpl won his second consecutive Big Air snowboarding World Cup event in Graz, Austria, to take the lead in the discipline standings.

The 28-year-old Austrian earned his third career World Cup win by beating Matti Kinnunen of Finland in the final at the Messegelaende Graz.

• Road race expert Boris Said won both races in the third annual Bodine Bobsled Challenge in Lake Placid, N.Y.

In the three years this unique event featuring race car drivers on ice has been run, Said has won five of six races, finishing second to Kevin Lepage the only time he didn't take the gold.

• An Iranian exile who spent the past six months running around the perimeter of the United States says he's waiting for Guinness to certify his 11,000-mile jog as a world record.

Reza Baluchi returned to New York, his starting point, on Friday. The London-based certifying body needs to declare the feat a world record for longest solo run around the U.S. perimeter.

Paulie Malignaggi successfully defended his IBF junior-welterweight title, unanimously outpointing Canada's Herman Ngoudjo at Bally's Atlantic City Hotel Casino. Malignaggi won on all three judges' cards, 117-111, 116-113 and 115-113.
