Russian Chakvetadze robbed at her home Russian tennis star Anna Chakvetadze was tied up by masked robbers who broke into her home Tuesday and stole money and goods worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, her father said.

Chakvetadze (left), ranked No. 6 and a 2007 U.S. Open semifinalist, was bound for 30 minutes in her home outside Moscow but not seriously hurt, NTV television reported.

"Anna is holding up quite well," Russia tennis coach Shamil Tarpishchev told the ITAR-Tass news agency.

Six assailants approached the home before dawn, tied up a maid in another building and forced her to hand over a remote control enabling them to enter through the garage, NTV reported.

Police and Tarpishchev told the ITAR-Tass new agency the assailants tied up Chakvetadze and her parents. Tarpishchev said the 20-year-old player "tried to resist but it was useless."

Lindsay Davenport's comeback will include representing the United States in the Fed Cup. Davenport, 31, a three-time Grand Slam singles champion agreed to play for the U.S. team that faces Germany in the Fed Cup quarterfinals Feb. 2-3 in La Jolla, Calif.

• Former U.S. Open and Wimbledon finalist Mark Philippoussis, 31, will miss January's Australian Open to undergo knee surgery, raising speculation he might be near the end of his injury-filled career.

DRUGS IN SPORTS

Romario suspended for doping Veteran striker Romario was suspended 120 days for failing a doping test in a Brazilian soccer league match two months ago. Members of Brazil's top sports tribunal voted 3-2 to suspend him after he tested positive for finasteride on Oct. 28. Finasteride is the active ingredient in the anti-balding medication Propecia and is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned list.

Kieren Fallon's positive cocaine test was confirmed and now the British jockey faces a French investigation that could lead to a 1½-year ban.

AROUND THE HORN

Football: Marc Trestman was hired as coach of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Trestman is a St. Louis Park native, former Gopher and, over 17 years, was an assistant with eight NFL teams including the Vikings. He replaces Jim Popp, who gave up his coaching duties but will remain as the team's general manager.

Auto racing: NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne faces a Jan. 8 arraignment for a misdemeanor charge of battery and, as of Tuesday, a lawsuit filed by Archibald Hutchinson, a security guard, over a Nov. 16 incident at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Hutchinson alleges he suffered "severe physical injuries" when shoved to the ground by Kahne.

College hockey: Nick Von Bokern and Mick Lawrence each scored two goals as host Nebraska-Omaha (7-8-3) beat Minnesota State Mankato (7-7-3) 6-3 in a nonconference game.
