DOWNBEAT'S RISING STARS

Thursday: This would-be all-star band stars live-wire trumpet phenom Sean Jones (pictured) and features a great supporting cast: saxophonists Greg Osby (of M-Base Collective fame) and Marcus Strickland (from Roy Haynes' Fountain of Youth band); commanding trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, a former Wynton Marsalis sideman and member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra; groovy guitar great Dave Stryker; another emerging trumpet star, Jeremy Pelt, and the fresh-faced rhythm section of Dan Nimmer (piano), Luques Curtis (bass) and Obed Calvaire (drums). It's nice to know that Osby, Stryker and Gordon can still be "rising stars" at ages 47, 51 and 41, respectively. (7:30 p.m. Thu. $45-$65. Orchestra Hall, 11th St. and Nicollet Mall, Mpls. 612-371-5656.)
