St. Louis Park snowboarder advances to Grand Prix final

St. Louis Park native Steve Fisher finished seventh in men's halfpipe qualifying at the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix on Friday at Copper Mountain, Colo.

Fisher scored 43.30 points and was among the eight snowboarders to qualify for Saturday's finals.

Shaun White of Carlsbad, Calif., the defending Olympic gold medalist, was nearly perfect on his second run and finished first with a score of 49.50.

Etc. • The 2010 U.S. Olympic women's ice hockey team will be announced at the Mall of America at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Team USA's first game will be against Canada on Dec. 30 at Xcel Energy Center.
