St. Paul man arrested in skyway assault on two people

A 28-year-old St. Paul man has been arrested in connection with a recent assault in the city's skyway system.

A group of at least six men were involved in the attack on a 23-year-old man and a 59-year-old man Jan. 19 in the Town Square skyway. As of Friday afternoon, the suspect had yet to be charged.

Sgt. Paul Paulos, a St. Paul police spokesman, said Friday that a stronger police presence downtown would help deter crime in the area. "People are saying youth are running wild, that we're not really doing anything about it. I'm here to tell you we are," Paulos said. "The downtown area is safe."

Although two similar incidents have occurred in recent months, Paulos said, the Police Department doesn't believe they are part of a trend.
