State Capitol restoration hits milestone: It's scaffolding-free

On a warm, sunny November Saturday, many visitors, including Leonela Covarrubias, of Faribault, Minn., and Victor Sauceda, of Houston stopped to take photographs at the Minnesota State Capitol, where scaffolding has been removed. (The Minnesota Star Tribune)

Contractors have finished removing the scaffolding at the Minnesota State Capitol, revealing the completed marble exterior. By Nov. 12, the newly gilded statuary group — the Quadriga or chariot group of human figures and four horses — is expected to be raised to the roof of the Capitol in St. Paul. The entire restoration of the interior and exterior is due to be finished in 2017.
