Minnesota state troopers have the job to protect and serve, and over the weekend two troopers did just that as they helped deliver two babies on the side of the road.

The heartwarming stories of troopers Jason Theel and James Orlando were posted on the State Patrol's Facebook page Monday afternoon and have been shared and liked more than 3,000 times.
Theel was the first to spring into action. Around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, he was called to the bustling interchange of Crosstown and Cedar Avenue in Richfield to help a woman going into labor. He helped make the mother comfortable until paramedics arrived and delivered the baby roadside, the patrol's Facebook page said.
The mother and baby were taken to a hospital and are doing well, the patrol said.
About 30 hours later in southern Minnesota, trooper James Orlando was administering a traffic stop on Interstate 90 near Worthington when a motorist pulled up behind his squad and jumped out.
The motorist told Orlando that his wife was about to give birth and that he needed help. Orlando went to the vehicle and found that the mother had already given birth. He made sure the baby was breathing and kept the mother comfortable until an ambulance arrived, Mom and baby were taken to a hospital and were doing well, the patrol said.
These Minnesotans are poised to play prominent roles in state and national politics in the coming years.
