The Huntdown
Name: Terry Allen Claim to Fame, Minnesota: a 9th-round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, Allen was the primary running back for the Minnesota Vikings between the Herschel Walker and Robert Smith eras. Had his best season in 1992, with 15 total touchdowns (second only to Emmitt Smith) and almost 1700 yards from scrimmage. Allen, who had already torn an ACL in college, blew out his other ACL in training camp the following season, then came back in 1994 with an 8-TD, 1000-yard campaign. Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: signed as a free agent with Washington after leaving the Purple and had a phenomenal 1996, tallying 21 touchdowns and a Pro Bowl slot on his reconstructed knees. His 1995-1998 run in DC led to his being named one of the 70 best players in franchise history. Allen closed out his career with stints in New England, New Orleans and Baltimore. Embarrassing Off-Field Incident®: surprisingly, it did not take place on 169 between Shakopee and Mankato. Rather, Allen was charged with DUI and fleeing Georgia police in 1997. He was clocked at 133 MPH (on two reconstructed knees, no less) before crashing his Ferrari into a tree. Did He Use Some Variation of "Do you know who I am?" When Confronted by Police: yes. Where He Is Now: he recently added his name to the ongoing concussion lawsuit brought by former players against the NFL. There is also a Terry Allen listed as the owner of Allen Trucking in Allen's hometown of Commerce, Georgia (A City on the Right Track!), but I cannot confirm if that's the former Viking. Is He on Twitter: not that I can tell. Glorious Randomness: the four starting Vikings running backs in 1993 were Barry Word, Scottie Graham, Robert Smith and Roger Craig.
