In both fashion and music, summer 2008 is the Summer of Neon. You might think that the 1980s craze should be on its way out by now -- but you would be wrong. Kanye West's blockbuster summer tour is called the Glow in the Dark Tour. Eighties icons Pat Benatar and George Michael are taking their summer tours through Minnesota. And to top it off, '80s pop princess Cyndi Lauper (!) and early-'90s rap popster MC Hammer (!!) are playing Macy's Glamorama fashion show in August.
Summer Concert Fashion
For summer style inspiration, take a cue from the music calendar.

So it's no surprise, then, that fashion is following suit with '80s/'90s influences. Even Hammer pants are back (as seen on the fall 2008 runways), but unless you're a 6-foot-tall, size-0 model, you might want to do your best to avoid them. Your best bets are stripes, graphic patterns and neon brights, like hot pink, neon green, electric blue and acid yellow. Wear them in all their '80s glory, or better yet, modernize them by pairing them with neutral shades. Or try the ultimate '80s statement: French manicure with hot pink tips.
Whatever you do, please don't crimp your bangs. That is one '80s trend that (God willing) will never come back.
Reach new style highs (and lows) with knee socks and ankle-length pants.
