Sunday Insider: The 3-2 pitch

July 2, 2011 at 10:19PM

Three observations ...• The Dodgers toiling in last place shouldn't be held against Matt Kemp, who is in the middle of an amazing season and deserves MVP consideration.

• The Twins should do all they can to keep Ben Revere in the outfield when Denard Span returns. If they aren't going to score runs, how about adding range to the outfield?

• It's hard to believe there are whispers that the Braves are willing to trade Jair Jurrjens. He should be a keeper.

... and two predictions• Jose Reyes won't get Carl Crawford money as a free agent. The Mets shortstop will get more than Crawford's seven year, $142 million deal.

• San Diego will deal the most players leading up to the July 31 trade deadline.

Gerrit Cole gave up his opt-out right on Monday and will remain with the New York Yankees under a contract that runs through 2028 rather than become a free agent.
