A North Dakota schools superintendent has been chosen as the new superintendent of the Centennial school district.

Paul Stremick, currently superintendent of Dickinson, N.D., schools, was chosen by the Centennial school board earlier this month to replace outgoing Superintendent Roger Worner.

Worner, who has served as superintendent for more than four years, will retire effective June 30. He has said that he plans to do consulting work, writing and teaching at the university level.

Stremick will begin his new job July 1. He has a three-year contract.

Before working in Dickinson, Stremick served as superintendent of another North Dakota district and a Montana district. He taught at the middle and high school levels and coached football, wrestling, track and tennis.

He also officiated at high school and college wrestling matches.

Stremick is a North Dakota native who received degrees from Dickinson State University in his home state; the University of Wyoming in Laramie, and Montana State University in Bozeman.

Worner said Stremick was instrumental in spearheading a lawsuit in North Dakota that forced the state to allocate more funds to property-poor districts, which have a harder time raising tax revenues.

The Centennial district has about 7,000 students and serves Blaine, Centerville, Lino Lakes, Circle Pines and Lexington.
