Wild Ones is growing

Wild Ones has formed a new seedling chapter on the southwest side of the metro area. Learn how to attract birds, bees, butterflies and other wildlife to your back yard at the first meeting of the new Prairie Edge Chapter of Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Chanhassen Public Library Wilder Room, 7711 Kerber Av.

Heather Holm, a native landscape designer, will give a presentation on "Restoring Your Landscape With Native Plants." Holm has transformed her drab Minnetonka lawn into a mixture of prairie and woodland plants. Meetings are free and open to the public. Go to www.WildOnesTwinCites.org for more information.

Recycled garden books

You never know what kind of used garden books you'll find at the Terrace Horticultural Books Fall Open House, Nov. 16-23, 503 St. Clair Av., St. Paul. The event also offers new books, garden artifacts, gifts and refreshments. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 651-222-5536.

Gertens is holding a free Backyard Birding Seminar with tips and tricks for attracting and identifying Minnesota birds, 1 p.m. Nov. 16, 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights. Learn about different feeders and seeds, and experts will be on hand to answer questions. Call 651-450-1501.
