Q I thought I read that "The Firm" was canceled. In the description for the episode aired most recently, it said "season finale," not "series finale." What's the deal?
'The Firm' finale is really the end
By ROB OWEN, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
A Unless it's a long-running series whose ending has been announced, networks usually do not label a one-season-old show as having a series finale, even though it's obvious that it is. The low-rated "The Firm" will not be back. The season finale was the series finale.
'Morse' prequel on the case Q Will there be more episodes of "Endeavour," the prequel to "Inspector Morse" that aired on "Masterpiece" on PBS?
A The British broadcaster that made the pilot movie has commissioned a series, according to a "Masterpiece" publicist. "Masterpiece" is on the cusp of acquiring it for airing as part of PBS' "Masterpiece Mystery!" in the United States.
See 'Breaking Pointe' online Q I recently read an article about "Breaking Pointe," which appeared on the CW network. Can you tell me anything about it -- is it a regular series, or was it a one-time thing?
A "Breaking Pointe" was a weekly docuseries that aired this summer on the CW. It was set at a ballet company in Utah, and past episodes can be watched on the show's CW website (www.cwtv.com). The CW hasn't yet announced if the show will be renewed for additional episodes.
Dog stories pervade TV news Q Do local TV news departments do demographic studies on dog stories? It seems to me that there are more and more dog stories on local news that are totally insignificant, but they must have information that a lot of dog owners watch.
A TV stations have research on everything. No doubt they've seen ratings spike when they've done pet stories in the past.
TV news' primary goal, while once public service, is now revenue production. To keep the money flowing in, stations need to draw ratings so they can keep their ad rates solid. One way to do that is to tug on heartstrings. Animal stories might stir up the emotions of pet owners and animal lovers, encouraging them to stay tuned for a report.
'Kennedys' coming back Earlier this summer, a reader asked when "The Kennedys" miniseries on REELZ Channel might re-air. There now are dates:
