The word of the week: grocerying

July 19, 2016 at 1:49PM

Definition: Buying foodstuffs.

Pronunciation: Groshering.

Sample usage: "If you're going grocerying, pick up some GMO — you know, Goat's Milk, Organic. But it has to be non-GMO GMO."

Popularity: You should print the word out several times and burn it. (Local ordinances may apply.) For starters, it's unpronounceable — you sound like your jaw's full of Novocaine. It replaces "Grocery shopping," which is actually fun to say. The extra syllable is not an inordinate burden. JAMES LILEKS

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
