Two teenagers injured during a stabbing Wednesday evening in North St. Paul are out of the hospital, but a third teenager who was also hurt remained in critical condition, the city’s police chief said Thursday.
Three teens hurt in North St. Paul stabbing
One of the victims, a 15-year-old girl, is hospitalized with critical injuries, police said.
The three teens were part of a group of young people who had congregated in the parking lot of Polar Plaza near 11th Avenue and McKnight Road. At some point, pushing and shoving ensued and activity moved to near a Subway sandwich shop where the stabbing is believed to have happened, said Police Chief Ray Rozales.
Cameras in the mall parking lot caught some of the action, which unfolded about 7 p.m. Rozales said he hopes cameras from a nearby bank and Target store might help investigators piece together what led up to the incident.
One victim, a 15-year-old girl, ran into a store to get help. Officers provided the girl with care at the scene before she was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Rozales said.
Police later learned that two other teens — a boy, 12, and a girl, 16 — also had been assaulted and were taken to a hospital in a private vehicle before officers arrived at the scene, Rozales said.
Rozales believed the 12- and 16-year-old had been discharged Thursday morning.
No one has been arrested, and no weapons have been recovered, Rozales said.
The North St. Paul investigations unit is working “diligently” to determine what happened, Rozales said.
