Timberwolves name five assistant coaches, promote woman to head trainer’s post for first time

The Timberwolves named five people to the assistant coach level Friday.

Max Lefevre was promoted to assistant coach on Chris Finch’s staff from his role as player development coach, and Jeff Newton goes from quality control coach to assistant coach.

Chris Hines was named assistant coach/director of player development after two seasons as player development coach, Nathan Bubes is assistant coach/quality control coach after being an assistant with the G League Iowa Wolves and Moses Ehambe is assistant coach/player development after serving as player development associate.

The Wolves also gave longtime trainer Gregg Farnam, entering his 28th season, the title of vice president of medical services.

Erin Sierer was named head athletic trainer; she’s the first woman in franchise history to hold that title. Sierer is in her sixth season, and was Farnam’s lead assistant the past five. She has her doctorate from Duke University.

James White was promoted to player development coach after spending last season as an Iowa assistant, and Joey Dorsey joins the staff as player development assistant. Both are former NBA players. Cole Fisher moves from senor analyst to manager of basketball analytics.

Edina’s Maddie Dahlien is headed to Colombia with the U.S. U20 women’s national soccer team for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

With an opening match against Spain on Sept. 1, the University of North Carolina junior will compete for a youth world title with the U.S. after first getting a national-team look at a training camp in April 2023.

Dahlien, 20, has helped the U.S. finish as runner up at the U-20 CONCACAF Championships and scored a hat trick against Jamaica in her first international match. Dahlien played club soccer at Minnesota Thunder Academy and graduated from Edina High School, where she was a three-time All-State soccer player and won state track titles in sprints and long jump.
