Busy, busy night. The Wild, Timberwolves and Gophers men's basketball are on the road as underdogs, while the Gophers women's basketball team hosts Northwestern at Williams Arena. Here is what you need to know (in order of start times):
Too much sports watching for a Wednesday night? (Answer: No!)
Both Gophers hoops teams, the Wolves and the late, late Wild show: plenty of action tonight. Here's a quick guide to Wednesday night:
Gophers women's basketball vs. Northwestern, 7 p.m., BTN Plus (subscription required)
Need to know: Former Hopkins standout Nia Coffey leads Northwestern into Williams Arena on Wednesday night. Coffey leads the team averaging 18.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game and 34 blocks. The Gophers won the last time out, beating Indiana on Mikayla Bailey's late three-pointer.
Timberwolves at Dallas Mavericks, 7:30 p.m., FSN
Need to know: The Wolves blew another big lead at New Orleans on Tuesday night to suffer their 30th loss of the season. However, Sunday's win over Phoenix and Tuesday's strong start could be signs of the team showing improvement. Dallas is an 8.5-point favorite.
Gophers men's basketball at Michigan, 7:30 p.m., BTN
Need to know: The Gophers are winless (0-6) in Big Ten play and are a long shot to snap their seven-game losing streak in Ann Arbor tonight. They are 16.5-point underdogs. Read Amelia Rayno's blog from Wednesday on Jordan Murphy (and more) here.
Wild at Anaheim Ducks, 9:30 p.m., NBCSN
Need to know: The Wild players are desperate to break out of a scoring slump after being shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since April 2013. They brought in skills coach Andy Ness to shake things up at Sunday's practice and try to ignite the offense. Anaheim is favored to win and extend the Wild's losing streak to five games.
