The sixth edition of the glitzy, studio-centered festival will run Oct. 21-31 at the ShowPlace Icon Theatre in St. Louis Park. "Too Late": Minnesota-raised Oscar nominee John Hawkes, seen most recently in "Everest," will introduce his latest film, a new take on the hard-boiled-private-eye genre. (8:30 p.m. Oct. 26, 10:15 a.m. Oct. 31) Saluting Hawkes' career, TCFF will also show his work alongside Jennifer Lawrence in the backwoods crime thriller "Winter's Bone" (9:15 p.m. Oct. 29) and his awkward comedic romance with writer/director/star Miranda July in "Me and You and Everyone We Know" (3:15 p.m. Oct. 30).
"Room": The strong cast includes Brie Larson, Joan Allen and William H. Macy in the story of a young woman and her 5-year-old son struggling to adapt to the outside world after a decade of forced captivity in a one-room cage. The film, based on the bestselling novel by Emma Donoghue, won the Audience Award at the Toronto film festival. (8 p.m. Oct. 21)
"The 33": Antonio Banderas and Juliette Binoche star in a fact-based drama about the Chilean miners who were trapped underground for two months. (5 p.m. Oct. 31)
