A dogged reporter

The most hard-hitting journalist on the political circuit, Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog, files his reports from the Democratic and Republican national conventions in "Triumph's Summer Election Special," his second contribution to Hulu. His first, on primary season, was nominated for an Emmy in the category of outstanding writing in a variety special.

Gender gaffes

Sitcoms revolving about life on the stand-up circuit are nothing new, but "Take My Wife" hopes to stick out by focusing on lesbian standups, played by Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher, who are married in real life. There aren't a lot of belly laughs, and the pair seem like they're being restrained by Whit Stillman, but you can't help but root for them, especially when they have to endure the juvenile banter of their primarily male peers. Esposito will perform Aug. 24 at Acme Comedy Co. in Minneapolis.
