In the most exciting team match of the day at state wrestling, Zumbrota-Mazeppa defeated Paynesville 30-27 on the strength of a triple-overtime win at heavyweight.

The Class 1A quarterfinal ended when Z-M's Jordan Arndt defeated Paynesville's Dominick Platow 5-3 in three OT's. The score was 27-27 through 13 weights.

"We knew it would be a very close dual," said Z-M coach Link Steffen. " We have dang near identical teams, so we knew it was going to be a nail-biter. Sure enough, it comes down to heavyweight overtime. It could have went either way. Today it went our way."
