TV critic's picks: Friday

Shakira on "Wizards of Waverly Place," Hilary Duff's "Beauty & the Briefcase"

He wolf Shakira (right) limits her hips to G-rated thrusts when she appears on "Wizards of Waverly Place" (7:30 p.m. Friday, Disney). Seems Uncle Kelbo is being punished, and gets transformed into the pop-music sensation. Gee, if you really wanted to punish the fella, wouldn't you force him to become one of the Real Housewives?

You're gonna miss them Brooks & Dunn, the celebrated duo who swear this is their last year together, perform a fan-selected hit as part of "The 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards" (7 p.m. Sunday, WCCO, Ch. 4) from Las Vegas. Other participants include John Fogerty, Toby Keith, Darius Rucker, Miranda Lambert and Jamie Foxx, who will keep attending this event until someone inducts him into the Grand Ole Opry.

Blah! Emeril Lagasse may be a top-notch chef, but he's a grating TV personality when he tries to do more than show you how to put some kick into your beef chili. In his latest effort to stretch, "The Emeril Lagasse Show" (7 p.m. Sunday, ION), he embarrasses himself by kissing up to guest Martha Stewart, overseeing a silly contest and trying to cook up some banter with bandleader Dave Koz. All efforts fall flat.

Office affairs Hilary Duff continues to cash in on her goody-two-shoes attitude in "Beauty & the Briefcase" (7 p.m. Sunday, ABC Family), playing a would-be journalist who is assigned the task of dating as many corporate suits as possible. We had to check twice to make sure this wasn't a new game show on the Playboy Channel.
