Alex's lament Back in the 1980s, every sitcom was seemingly required to churn out at least one "very special" episode every season -- an episode more interested in making you cry than laugh. Few did it better than "Family Ties" (7 p.m., Hub) in a two-part repeat in which Alex (Michael J. Fox) tries to deal with the death of his buddy after a car accident.

Target practice Another season, another Kathy Griffin stand-up special. The victims in "Kathy Griffin: Gurrl Down!" (8 p.m., Bravo) include Bill O'Reilly, Sarah Palin, Charlie Sheen, Kirstie Alley and Michele Bachmann. Congrats, congresswoman! You've made the big time!

Gentle on my mind Can identical twins really read each other's minds? "Primetime Nightline: Beyond Belief" (9 p.m., KSTP, Ch. 5) takes a look at the possibility in the first of a five-part series on spirituality. We don't know what the second part entails, but we hope it involves host Juju Chang getting a tarot-card reading.
