TV picks for Dec. 5: 'The Last Detail,' 'Easy,' 'I Need You to Kill'
"Last Flag Flying," in theaters, is an unofficial sequel to 1973's "The Last Detail," in which Jack Nicholson and Otis Young give young sailor Randy Quaid a shore pass before hauling him to a naval prison. Watching the original Hal Ashby film isn't required before checking out "Flying," but it offers the chance to see Nicholson with his freak flag hoisted high.

My kind of town
Writer/director Joe Swanberg's love letter to Chicago continues in the second season of "Easy," an anthology series in which actors including Elizabeth Reaser and Jake Johnson get to experiment with the kind of storytelling usually associated with experimental theater. In early episodes, Chi-town characters deal with the consequences of an open marriage and whether performing burlesque is an act of feminism — topics creator Swanberg approaches without pretension or fuss.

"I Need You to Kill" starts off as a documentary determined to give Minneapolis-based Acme Comedy Co. its due, but quickly veers into an examination of how well American comedy translates in Asia, fertile ground Acme owner Louis Lee may want to conquer in the near future. Fergus Falls-based comic Chad Daniels is a guinea pig in Lee's experiment.
