A driven performance

"The Middle" (7 p.m., KSTP, Ch. 5) continues to get shunned by Emmy voters, which is a shame. Most deserving is Eden Sher, a 21-year-old actress who brings great heart to her role as the ever-optimistic Sue Heck. She's particularly good in this repeat that has her trying to get her driver's license — for the sixth time.

Helping hands

Big stars like Patrick Dempsey, Jennifer Hudson, LL Cool J and recently married Jesse Tyler Ferguson lend their star wattage to shine on young volunteers in the "VH1 Do Something Awards" (7 p.m., VH1). This ceremony would be even better if producers could get Britney Spears to open the show by lip syncing her hit "Do Somethin'."

Pigging out

Daymon "Daym" Patterson is a little too enthusiastic about his grub. In "Best Daym Takeout" (9 p.m., Travel), the host wolfs down pizza and burgers behind his steering wheel like a bear pouncing on a beehive. Too bad he doesn't take a breath to let himself — and viewers — relish the meal.
