An unexpected detour – a 50-game drug suspension last season – did not deter Eddie Rosario's path to the big leagues.
Twins summon top prospect Eddie Rosario to majors
He replaces Oswaldo Arcia, who went on the disabled list with a hip injury.
The Twins recalled the 23-year-old outfielder from Class AAA Rochester Monday, placing Oswaldo Arcia on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip flexor strain.
Rosario impressed Twins staff during spring training, and got the call over former Twin Aaron Hicks, also at Rochester. Rosario was batting .242 at Rochester and was second on the team with 12 RBI. Hicks interestingly was batting .289 and led Rochester with 13 RBI.
Rosario missed the first 50 games last season after testing positive for a "drug of abuse," according to the league office. He told the Star Tribune last April that he smoked marijuana during the Arizona Fall League.
Rosario prior to the drug suspension was considered one of the Twins' top prospects, often mentioned in the same breath with Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano.
Blake Snell and the Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a $182 million, five-year contract, AP source says.
