Two get probation for fatal drunken fall in Minneapolis

June 26, 2008 at 4:40AM

Two Brooklyn Park men were sentenced to two years of probation Wednesday for illegally providing alcohol to a University of Minnesota student who fell to his death last year.

Michael John McCullough, 21, and Brandon Bernard Overlie, 22, must also spend two months in the workhouse, complete 80 hours of community service and wear electronic monitors for six months.

They both were charged in the death of Kyle Sharbonno, 19, of Prior Lake, who fell from the third floor of the Oak Street parking garage in Minneapolis in April 2007.

Sharbonno's blood-alcohol level was almost four times the legal limit for driving after he attended a McCullough-hosted house party featuring a tournament of "beer pong," a popular drinking game. Overlie, McCullough's housemate, brought several kegs of beer for the party.

The men also were ordered to undergo alcohol awareness counseling after Sharbonno's father, Randy Sharbonno, made the request. Randy Sharbonno declined to comment Wednesday evening.
