A few types of amaro

• Amaro Nonino (grappa-based), $42

• Cardamaro (cardoon), $20

• Cynar (artichoke), $19

• Fernet Branca (mint), $26

• Luxardo Amaro (vegetal), $20

• Rabarbaro Zucca (rhubarb), $25

A few uses of amaro

• Straight as after-dinner drink

• With soda or tonic as an aperitif

• Add fernet to cola (an Argentinian specialty)

• Use in Manhattans, Negronis or other classics (adjust vermouth levels as desired). For a Negroni, use standard amount of vermouth, subbing out Campari (which is essentially an amaro itself) or gin.

• Substitute for nonpotable bitters, such as Angostura and Peychaud's
