Noora Raty, a sophomore goaltender for the Gophers women's hockey team, was named a second-team All-America by the American Hockey Coaches Association. The announcement came in conjunction with the NCAA Frozen Four, held last weekend in Erie, Pa.
U goalie is second-team All-America pick
It is Raty's second All-America honor in two years; she was a first-teamer as a freshman. It's the fourth consecutive season the Gophers have had an All-America and the program's 22nd time since 1998.
A top-10 Patty Kazmaier Award finalist, Raty was also named a first-team all-WCHA selection. She played in 35 games as a sophomore and had a goals-against average of 1.77 and a save percentage of .941. Raty had a 25-7-2 record, breaking a school record for wins in a season. She also had nine shutouts, which was tied for the nation's lead and set a school record. She had the nation's sixth-best save percentage.
Etc. Gophers men's basketball coach Tubby Smith will be a guest analyst on the Big Ten Network during the Wednesday and Thursday night editions of "Big Ten Basketball & Beyond." The Wednesday show airs at 7 p.m., the Thursday show at 11:30 p.m.
For the second consecutive week, Gophers freshman pitcher Sara Moulton won Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Moulton gave up three earned runs in 39 1/3 innings as the Gophers went 4-2 last week. She struck out 53 and walked seven. She pitched five complete games in her six starts.
The St. Paul Saints will begin selling single-game tickets at 10.a.m. Saturday at the box office at Midway Stadium, and fans who buy tickets between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. will be entered in a drawing for prizes valued at up to $1,000. For more information go to saintsbaseball.com.
