Authorities identify victims of Minneapolis shootings outside bar, near police station
A 16-year-old and 34-year-old were killed in separate shootings Thursday night and early Friday.
Minneapolis police responded to reports of gunfire near the the corner of Knox and Plymouth avenues about 8:15 p.m. Thursday. Officers discovered 16-year-old Jeremiah Durr of Jordan, who had been shot.
Durr was taken to HCMC, where he died of his injuries, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office. The site of the shooting is just down the street from the police department's 4th Precinct headquarters.
Hours later, about 1 a.m. Friday at Bullwinkle's Saloon in downtown Minneapolis, 34-year-old Cortez Maurice Crumble, of Brooklyn Park, was shot. Police believe a gunfight broke out at a private event at the bar and moved outside to South Washington Avenue, Parten said.
Crumble was also taken to HCMC, where he died of his injuries, according to the medical examiner.
Another victim of the gunfight was taken to HCMC by emergency responders and two more showed up at the hospital, Parten said. All three were in their 30s, and at least one suffered potentially life-threatening injuries, he said.
The deaths of Durr and Crumble were the 63rd and 64th homicides in Minneapolis this year, according to data tracked by the Star Tribune.
A separate drive-by shooting late Thursday left four people injured near a troubled corner of the North Side's commercial district. Four more people were shot and injured just before midnight on Friday near a bar on the North Side.
