The Vikings have released safety Cedric Thompson and two others.

Thompson, a former Gophers standout, spent part of last season on the Vikings practice squad. He has not appeared in a game for the Vikings, who brought him back on a reserve/futures contract in January.

Thompson, a fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2015, has had a stint with the Patriots, too. He has yet to play in a regular-season NFL game.

The Vikings are left with only five safeties on their 90-man roster. They did not select a player at that position during last weekend's NFL draft.

In addition to Thompson, the Vikings have released offensive tackle Marquis Lucas and defensive tackle Sterling Bailey. Both players spent part of the 2016 season on the team's practice squad, too.
