Barbie kicked off her campaign for pesident of the United States recently at the EPIC Awards, in New York City.
Architect. Veterinarian. News anchor. Those are just a few of the more than 130 careers on Barbie's resume. This year, Barbie is running for president.
It's her fifth time, but this time she has an endorsement from The White House Project, a group that aims to involve more women in politics. Barbie announced her candidacy on April 5 at the non-profit's annual EPIC Awards. With more than 350 professionals in attendance, Barbie threw her pink hat into the campaign ring.
For the first time, Barbie will literally stand on her own. She is the sole female candidate in the election. But moreover, Barbie will also be the first doll in the "I Can Be ..." career line to stand on her own two feet, thanks to new technology that involves magnets built into her pink wedge shoes.
Mattel also partnered with fashion designer Chris Benz, who has dressed many celebrities, including First Lady Michelle Obama. The trim of Barbie's pink suit features red, blue and white.
"Being President culminates Barbie's career path," said Cathy Cline, who works for Mattel. "She stands for inspiring girls to be informed and involved in their local communities."
The White House Project has partnered with Barbie since 2000, working together to empower girls.
"We are proud to continue our partnership with Barbie and to see America's favorite doll represent girls this election year," says Tiffany Dufu, president of the White House Project.
