VOTING BEGINS WITH KIDNAPPINGS, ATTACKS

Polling stations opened Saturday in Afghanistan after a scattering of rocket attacks apparently aimed to disrupt the vote.
A rocket struck in Kabul a couple hours before dawn, while three others struck the eastern city of Jalalabad. There were no reports of damage or injuries.
On Friday, Taliban claimed to have kidnapped 30 campaign workers, election officials and even a candidate for parliament as Afghans prepared to vote.
Government officials confirmed most of the kidnappings.
