Want a piece of '90s Minneapolis? Nicollet Mall granite for sale
Minnesota's signature pedestrian mall is getting ripped up, so why not rebuild part of it in your backyard?
The contractor for the $50 million redesign of Nicollet Mall is selling salvaged granite pavers on Craigslist, exclaiming, "Let History be part of your project!" The city, meanwhile, is hoping to sell 18,000 pavers that it has kept in storage for repair jobs.
The Craigslist ad says the pavers are historic, but most if not all date to the 1990s reconstruction of the mall. Those used pavers are being sold by the pallet, each of which contains about 75 square feet of granite. They come in gray, red and rose colors, according to the ad. The price is not listed.
The City Council's transportation committee separately likely will give initial approval Tuesday to sell the city's inventory on the city website.
The city sells many historical bricks and stones salvaged during other street reconstruction projects for $2 apiece.
