St. Paul’s Pet Haven of Minnesota is looking for one charismatic cat and dog to be the face of limited-edition Surly Brewing crowlers.

The foster-based pet rescue’s third-annual Rescue Brew Spokesmodel Contest invites all dog and cat owners to give Fido and Fluffy the chance to be featured on Surly’s Rescue Brew Pilsner.

To enter, owners submit a photo of their pet and up to 75 words explaining why their dog or cat should represent Pet Haven and all of Minnesota’s rescued pets. A $15 entry fee buys 15 votes for the applicant and additional votes may be cast for $1 apiece. (Funds support Pet Haven and its Phoenix Fund for emergency vet care.)

The contest runs through Aug. 18 and winners will be celebrated at the Minneapolis brewery’s Sept. 7th release party, which includes live music, vendors and a dog-adoption event.

Kerry D’Amato, Pet Haven’s executive director, hopes the contest will raise $50,000 to help manage the substantial increase in Minnesota pets needing homes as well as the rising costs of pet food and medical care.Where once Minnesota used to be the place that had more adopters than pets, that has quickly shifted and we are now seeing foster-based rescues on intake holds, shelters at capacity and euthanizing for space,” she noted.
