West metro school briefs: St. David's Center in Minnetonka plans parenting session

St. David's Center plans parenting sessionSt. David's Center for Child and Family Development in Minnetonka will host a community education session for parents Sept. 26 on how to encourage children to spend more time outdoors.

The session, "Children and Nature: Healing the Broken Bond," will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Developmental Psychologist Marti Erickson will lead the free session at the center at 3395 Plymouth Road. Child care is available for registered attendees. Register online by Sept. 21 at www.stdavidscenter.org/ces or 952-548-8627.

EDINA

Marching band to perform at 9/11 event in November in New YorkThe Edina High School Marching Band will perform in New York City in November as part of a 9/11 tribute.

The band was selected to represent Minnesota and join other bands from across the country in Times Square for a mass performance on Nov. 10, then participate in the 92nd New York City Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11.
